They
say you know when you know.
I had one of those feelings when we left town the
other day, Bunzy often has good days and then a bad day and a half, and I
worry. Of course I always worry, but lately his bad days were, well, really
bad. I convinced myself he would bounce back, because he always bounces back. After
all, he takes after me ;)
But
this time was different and Mr Klas and I both knew it. We asked Bunz to hang in there, my Mom was feeding him while we were out of town and would never forgive herself if he died on her watch.
This time, we came home and Bunz was too stiff to greet us, his breathing was slow and we knew he had waited to say goodbye to us.
Yes,
I sobbed (see Toby Maguire pic) and snotted all over him, tried to keep him warm, but his body was
done.
His
will however, showed as he tried to stay warm (near the heater) and kept trying…just
trying. It was not a peaceful end, but I must walk away knowing he knew he was
loved, and he made sure we knew he loved us.
I am blessed to have Mr. Klas to wrap him up and help me bury him in my parent's Pet Cemetery.
Huge appreciation goes to my hubby for accepting Bunz moved in when I moved in and for stepping in when I could not today. Thank you Trav for introducing me to Bunz, to the many friends and family who baby-sat him over the years: specifically Jenny & Elise for running him back and forth across the parking lot, George for convincing me he needed a proper first name, Pilar for introducing him to meat (...among other forbidden things), Adrienne for being his favorite sitter. Thanks to all the roommates who put up with us, (Jenny, Kayla, Claire, Smiths, Shults) my family for letting me keep him at your home and following his ridiculously high maintenance eating habits, and to Michael for making him an awesome wooden house to sleep on and in.
Who
could ask for anything more? The vet said he wouldn’t live past 3. He just
turned 8. Many blessed years. Please read on for pictures and to see how this bond, this feeling of
protection is what was intended.
‘Then
God said, “Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing offspring
of the same kind—livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and
wild animals.” And that is what happened.
God
made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to
produce offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, “Let us make human beings
in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea,
the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the
small animals that scurry along the ground.”
So God created human beings
in his own image.
In the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
In the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
Then God
blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it.
Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that
scurry along the ground.”
Then God
said, “Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and
all the fruit trees for your food. And I
have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the
sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground—everything that has
life.” And that is what happened.
Then God
looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good!
And evening
passed and morning came, marking the sixth day. So the creation of the heavens
and the earth and everything in them was completed.’ Genesis 1:24-2:1
So thank you for falling in love with Bunzy (how could you not) Thank you to those who express your condolences, our fuzzy friends bring us a love God decided was Very Good and necessary. Keep rescuing them, keep loving them, God put us in charge of this planet and everything on it.
